Shared Threads: Teresa Lanceta in Dialogue with Laura Vallés Vílchez

April 16, 2025 | 12:00 PM
Location: 53 Washington Square South, Espacio de Culturas
We invite you to an inspiring conversation on textile politics with Teresa Lanceta, recipient of the 2023 Spanish National Prize for Fine Arts, in dialogue with curator, editor, and researcher Laura Vallés Vílchez.
This session will explore the intersection of migration, flamenco cultures, and diasporic encounters in Barcelona’s El Raval neighborhood, alongside Teresa Lanceta’s work in the Middle Atlas region, where she has developed her practice for over three decades. Through an analysis of her textile works—exhibited at the time at the Museum of Modern Art and Sikkema Malloy Jenkins—the discussion will delve into her artistic approach and her understanding of weaving as both a language and a tool for cultural transmission.
Drawing from their decade-long editorial and curatorial collaboration at MACBA, IVAM, EACC, and Concreta, Lanceta and Vallés Vílchez will engage in a conversation about storytelling through textiles, cultural memory, and the evolution of collaborative and creative processes in Lanceta’s practice.
The event also marks the recent publication of their book El Paso del Ebro (Editorial Concreta, 2025), a collaborative project that expands on these reflections from the perspective of the artist’s experiences and personal journey.
