Marina Garde Assistant Director
Marina Garde is the Assistant Director at NYU’s Espacio de Culturas @KJCC since August 2023.
She holds an MA in Political Science from Universidad Complutense in Spain, pursued post-graduate studies at the Diplomatic School in Madrid, and completed a Certificate in International Relations from New York University.
Garde brings over twenty years of experience in International Relations, Human Rights, Cultural Management, and Fundraising, which she acquired at the United Nations and various non-governmental organizations, making her a valuable addition to the Espacio de Culturas @KJCC team.
Within the United Nations, she worked closely with Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Initially focusing on human rights and legal issues, her purview evolved to security and democracy-related issues as Liaison Officer between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the UN. After a decade, she transitioned to the nonprofit sector as the Executive Director of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade Archives—the organization founded by the international volunteers who fought fascism during the Spanish Civil War. There, she founded and directed Impugning Impunity, a pioneer human rights film festival dedicated solely to the documentary form. She then took on the role of Director of Development at Salmagundi, one of the nation's oldest art institutions.
Born and raised in Madrid and fluent in three languages, Garde lived in London and Beirut and established herself in New York City. Beyond her professional commitments, Garde finds solace in her active yoga practice, advocating for environmental responsibility and promoting education as a powerful tool for positive transformation.
Deeply committed to the arts and culture, she serves as Co-Chair of the Board at the Lehman College Art Gallery in The Bronx.
